Applicants with the following background could be admitted to any of the levels • Qualified and part qualified Accountants • Degree in Accounting or any discipline • CICTA Ghana Students • Degree in Business and Commerce • MBA in Finance or Accounting • Part qualified Accountants • GRA officials • DBS with experience • All tertiary qualifications (A). Certified Tax Accountants (CITA) Level I: (Entry Requirements) 1. 1st degree in any discipline (not Tax or Accounting) 2. HND, DBS, Accounting technicians, Part I of other professional bodies, etc. (B). Certified Tax Accountants (CITA) Level II Applicants with the following background with at least 6yrs experience may be eligible: i. HND Accounting with experience ii. Part Qualified Accountants iii. Non Accounting Graduates with Accounting experience iv. Other Student Members of Accounting & Tax professional bodies. (C). Certified Tax Accountants (CITA) Level III Applicants with the following background may be eligible: i. Part Qualified accountants with considerable work experience ii. MSc. Accounting/ Tax with work experience iii. BSc. Accounting with work experience (D). Certified Tax Accountants (CITA) Professional Level i. Certified Tax Accountants (CITA) Level III ii. ICA qualified with work experience iii. ACCA qualified or CIMA with work experience iv. GRA chief insp. & above with accounting background v. Post graduate certificate in Practical Accountancy and taxation graduates
Exemptions are available for the following category of qualifications: i. Qualified Accountants (ICA, ACCA, etc.) ii. Part Qualified Accountants iii. University and Polytechnic graduates, MBA / MSc / BSc / BBA / B.COM / HND iv. GRA TAX Officials v. Post Graduate Certificate in Practical Accountancy and Taxation. vi. MBA / MSc Accountancy / Finance / Tax Graduates.

The profession combines both Tax and Accounting in that graduates could be engaged as accountant or tax expert. Tax accounting is a discipline in accounting but the core is Taxation. A Tax Accountant utilises the tax laws of a country to prepare tax assessments and tax examination. Qualified tax accountants command higher remuneration than ordinary accountants and could set up their own consultancy firms after qualification.
